Stylus User Interfaces
نویسنده
چکیده
This paper is concerned with pen-based (also called stylus-based) computers. Two of the key questions for such computers are how to interface to handwriting recognition algorithms, and whether there are interfaces that can effectively exploit the differences between a stylus and a keyboard/mouse. We describe prototypes that explore each of these questions. Our text entry tool is designed around the idea that handwriting recognition algorithms will always be error prone, and has a different flavor from existing systems. Our prototype editor goes beyond the usual gesture editors used with styli and is based on the idea of leaving the markups visible. CR

Beautifying Sketching-based Design Tool Content: Issues and Experiences
With the advent of the Tablet PC and stylus-based PDAs, sketching-based user interfaces for design tools have become popular. However, a major challenge with such interfaces is the need for appropriate “beautification” of the sketches. This includes both interactive beautification as content is sketched and post-design conversion of sketches to formalised, computer-drawn diagrams. We discuss a ...
متن کاملFluid inking: augmenting the medium of free-form inking with gestures
We present Fluid Inking, a generally applicable approach to augmenting the fluid medium of free-form inking with gestural commands. Our approach is characterized by four design criteria, including: 1) pen-based hardware impartiality: all interactions can be performed with a button-free stylus, the minimal input hardware requirement for inking, and the least common denominator device for pen-bas...
متن کاملHaptic Pen: A Tactile Feedback Stylus for Touch Displays
In this paper we present a system for providing tactile feedback for stylus-based touch-screen displays. The Haptic Pen is a simple low-cost device that provides individualized feedback for multiple simultaneous users and can operate on large input displays as well as ordinary surfaces. We combine a pressure-sensitive stylus with a small solenoid to generate a wide range of tactile sensations. ...
متن کاملUsability evaluation of single - stroke vs . multi - stroke gesture recognition for rapid text input on small screen mobile devices
Without physical keyboard, users have to turn to key-based or stylus-based text entry device for solutions. Stylus-based handwriting interaction seems more natural. However, problems of segmentation and recognition come out [3]. (Note that since 2007’s announcement of the iPhone, and widespread adaptability of capacitive touchscreens, stylus has gradually been replaced by finger-touch user inte...
متن کامل3D User Interfaces, from Mobile Devices to Immersive Virtual Environments. (Interfaces utilisateur 3D , des appareils mobiles pour les environnements virtuels immersifs)
Résumé Enhancing interaction between users and 3D environments is a challenging research question that is fundamental for the positive widespread of interactive 3D graphics in many fields of our societies (e.g. education and art). In this document, I present various 3D User Interfaces (3D UIs) we have developed these past few years, and that contribute to this general quest. The first chapter f...
